Intern Hell

With the re-launching of our website, the workload around the shop has doubled, and the staff has been pushed to their limits.  We recently put out an inquiry for interns looking for work experience or school credit.  The response was nothing short of overwhelming.  After weeks of tireless interviews and broken hearts, we arrived at Terry.

Hailing as a Parsons drop-out, Terry abandoned his academic pursuits to follow an opportunity on the world-renowned Broadway play Avenue Q.  He was eventually brought on for a walk-on role, but this would subsequently turn into a full-time gig due to his burning passion for the arts.  Unfortunately, Terry’s Broadway career came to a screeching halt when “false” accusations arose with a fellow female puppeteer.  Terry decided to take a break from the stresses of an artist’s reality, so he committed to a cross-country road trip which resulted in spending the following months in the west coast.  He kept his passion for the arts alive, however, by doing impromptu street art performances in San Francisco.  Attempting to constantly be on the move and still not having found his true reason for being, Terry decided to attend the Burning Man festival in the deserts of Nevada.  This is where Terry finally found his true calling and would awake 5 years later at the age of 28 — naked and covered in dust, but with a renewed sense of determination.  This is the moment Terry realized he wanted to become a…

Bodega x Palladium

Bodega and heritage boot brand Palladium have joined forces on a version of Palladium’s signature ‘Baggy’ boot, just in time for the cold season. The ‘Fisticuffs’ boot features a herringbone pattern on the upper and rich chocolate leather, harkening back to the formal dress of the Victorian gentleman. ‘Fisticuffs’ is slang dating back to England’s Victorian era when gentlemen settled their differences in hand to hand duels. ‘Back then, people were polite, even when they were about to throw fists at each other’ said Barney Waters of Palladium, himself an Englishman. ‘When things got rough, there was still a formality and etiquette to the occasion. There were rules of conduct. This boot is the same way; it’s ready to get down and dirty, but the materials are of high quality, allowing it to be dressed up’. Dan from Bodega added, “Scattered throughout the boot are subtle details relating back to this theme because let’s face it boots are meant to kick ass. As a store we’re always looking to diversify our brands and Palladium was an obvious choice. From a retail stand point it’s a great looking product with that important mix of quality fabrication, well considered materials, heritage, and value.”

The Bodega ‘Fisticuffs’ boot features premium leathers for the vamp and a contrasting herringbone material for the upper. The wool lining, comfort foot bed and gusset tongue make it the essential boot for the fall/winter season. Bodega created a custom logo for the boot, which is laser etched onto the leather tongue. Each pair of boots will be individually numbered, with only 350 pairs being available globally.

Why We Do What We Do

New At Bodega- 123-Klan

My shop Bodega just picked up 123-Klan.   They are old friends of ours from painting & I have no idea why we didn’t carry it earlier.   France->Canada->Bodega USA.   Whatup Scien & Klor!!

Frank 151 Feature

Backpocket cool dude magazine Frank151 recently featured the shop in their Summer Fashion show issue. It’s an interview with Dan, and he gets into the origins, philosophy and current-whashappenings of Bodega.

Frank151: Tell us about the history of your store.
Bodega: Bodega this May will be four years old. Myself and my two other partners, Jay and Oliver, about five years ago we hated our jobs and wanted to pursue something that we had an interest in, which was niche market retailing. In Boston there was no store like this and we wanted to create a unique retail experience where the consumer could come in, find product that they wouldn’t find everywhere and just have a different and very eclectic experience compared to what is traditionally done. Our main goal was to have it operate off of word of mouth – we have no phone, no sign. We just kinda wanted to be like a speak-easy. The reason that we based it off a bodega is because traditionally, the bodega is the centre of the neighborhood, it also doubles as a social club or a weed spot, it’s multipurpose. So when we created the space, we wanted there to be a traditional bodega setting when you come in, and then in the back there’d be the secret retail area, you’d have that juxtaposition of spaces.

Bodega x Size? x Puma

PUMA, Bodega and SIZE? Release a Really Fucking Cool Limited Edition Sneaker

Boston, MA, USA (September 18, 2010) –– PUMA, SIZE? and Bodega have collaborated to design a limited edition sneaker to commemorate the 10 year anniversary of SIZE?, an iconic UK footwear institution. The collaboration features a double pack of the limited edition style “SIZE? Matters” using the PUMA Blaze of Glory silhouette.

Danny Bodega, co-owner of the Boston-based sneaker shop Bodega, explains “The Bodega ‘SIZE? Matters’ collaboration pays homage and respect to SIZE?, whose legacy has spanned more than a decade. The SIZE? Matters Blaze of Glory sneaker is a creative tongue-in-cheek take on the fact that SIZE? does matter and that we have been fortunate enough to work with such an influential store over the past few years.”

Bodega went on to say, “Working with PUMA on this collaboration has been a great experience. We were able to bring several iconic entities together to create a truly unique and desirable shoe.”

The SIZE? Matters Blaze of Glory features a premium leather upper with perforated suede and mesh detailing. The speckled Trinomic outsole and specialty collaboration tags on the tongue and heel make this shoe one-of-a-kind.

In addition to the limited edition shoe, a bespoke bike project will be unveiled at the launch on Saturday, September 18. PUMA customized a PUMA Biomega DISKO 2010 bike with details inspired by the PUMA x SIZE? x Bodega collaboration. While the bike is not for sale, it will be on display in-store.

PUMA and SIZE? developed a collaborative range in conjunction with five global sneaker boutiques to honor the 10 year anniversary of SIZE?. SNKRFRKR (AUS), Bodega (USA), Trainerspotter (UK), SNS (Sweden) and Jon Burgerman (UK) each collaborated with PUMA and SIZE? on a unique limited edition style. The range includes footwear and two customized bikes per collaboration. The SNKRFRKR design was the first to be released on August 4th using the PUMA R698 model which also features the Trinomic technology outsole.

Specific for the limited run of “SIZE? Matters” anniversary kicks, consumers will receive a “Size? Matters” tape measure as gift with purchase.
